Halloween gives people the chance to be whoever they wish for one night—with some costumes reflecting comedy, some imitating a favorite character, and many falling in between.

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, which struck the East coast just days before the annual holiday, many Halloween fans continued to celebrate the autumn holiday. Both young and old donned costumes they had anticipated to showcase before the “Frankenstorm” barreled through New York City.

From video game characters to food-themed outfits, here is a collection of some of the best costumes shared on Instagram.
