HJC Helsinki forward Joel Pohjanpalo has admitted that he dreams of joining Liverpool just months after reportedly turning down the chance to sign a contract with the club in the summer.
The Mirror has reported that the 18-year-old took part in a one-week trial at Liverpool back in March and was then offered a three-year contract in August. However, he decided to turn down the deal as he wanted to continue his development in the Helsinki first team.
Liverpool could not guarantee that the young striker would even be playing in the Under-21 side and he has since helped fire Helsinki to a fourth straight title.
Despite turning down the chance to play at Anfield, Pohjanpalo appears to have changed his mind after admitting that he dreams of one day playing at Liverpool.
"I don't know where I'll be playing next season, but it's my dream to play for Liverpool FC one day," the young striker said during an interview on a Finnish TV station.
The forward then went on to explain why he decided to remain in Finland, rather than joining the Brendan Rodgers revolution on Merseyside.
"It was a hard decision to reject Liverpool's contract offer. HJK is a good club and there's a great feeling in this group; I can for example call to our assistant manager in my free time to come and play the ball. I'm sure it would not been possible in Liverpool," added Pohjanpalo.
"I know I might get an injury or something else and the possibility [of a move to Liverpool] may not necessarily happen again, but I have to move forward and overcome all obstacles when they arise."
Pohjanpalo has scored 11 league goals in 25 games this season as he has become a regular in the Helsinki side, whilst also impressing for the Finland Under-21 side.
Just weeks after returning from his trial at Liverpool he played in the first league game of the Veikkausliiga season, scoring a perfect hat-trick in just three minutes.
Liverpool are short of options in attack after Fabio Borini was ruled out until the New Year, although there are a number of younger players all pushing for a start in the first team.
However, Pohjanpalo does already have some experience in Europe having scored two goals against KR Reykjavik in a Champions League qualifier earlier this summer.
