A small earthquake rattled Southern California Sunday morning, making buildings shake in downtown Los Angeles, but there were no reports of damage or injury.   

The shallow quake had a preliminary magnitude of 3.9 and struck at 8:24 a.m. PDT, the U.S. Geological Survey said, according to NBC Los Angeles. It was centered near Santa Clarita, about 24 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. 

Shaking was felt across the Santa Clarita Valley, in downtown Los Angeles, in West Hollywood and along beaches, the Associated Press reported.

A sheriff's dispatcher in Santa Clarita told the AP  there were no calls reporting damage or injury.
