Which teams are interested is not clear, but several are on the market for a running back.
The Arizona Cardinals, who have on the worst scoring offenses in the NFL, are down two tail backs with Ryan Williams and Beanie Wells on the sidelines. Arizona could be a destination for the Panthers' seven-year veteran.
Also looking for more help in the backfield is the Indianapolis Colts, who were linked to Jacksonville running back Maurice Jones-Drew during his contract holdout. Ultimately Jones-Drew stayed, but the Colts are looking for a long-term solution to pair with their stud rookie quarterback Andrew Luck.
The Colts lost Donald Brown for the foreseeable future, and so far rookie Vick Ballard has stepped in with underwhelming results.
For 2012, Williams has 177 yards and two touchdowns on 50 carries. He has split carries with running back Jonathan Stewart for much of his career.
Williams best year was in 2008, when he rushed for 1,515 yards and 18 touchdowns.
