Perhaps someone forgot to tell the Ohio State Buckeyes that no matter how well they play, a postseason berth won’t be possible for quite some time.
The undefeated and ninth ranked Ohio State continues its run Saturday afternoon as they take on the streaking Penn State Nittany Lions Saturday afternoon at Beaver Stadium.
The Buckeyes escaped Purdue last week with a 29-22 win, thanks to back-up quarterback Kenny Guiton’s touchdown pass with three seconds remaining to force overtime, and running back Carlos Hyde had a one-yard score in the extra period for the win.
Guiton came in after sophomore starter Braxton Miller was taken out in the third quarter and sent to the hospital for a precautionary evaluation. Miller was cleared to play this week against Penn State.
Ohio State thought it was done when Miller went down, but Gution overcame an interception and led the Buckeyes on two straight touchdown drives.
After dropping their first two games, Penn State also continues its strong play despite no chances at a bowl game.
The Nittany Lions have rallied to win their last five with their most recent victory over Iowa, in a 38-14 drubbing.
Led by quarterback Marc McGloin’s 289 passing yards and two touchdowns, the Nittany Lions raced out to a 24-0 lead in the first half, and eventually finished with 504 total yards.
Running back Bill Belton spearheaded the run game with 103 yards and three touchdowns, while the Penn State defense stuffed the Hawkeyes' rushing attempts, giving up only 20 yards, and 209 total yards.
If he does play, Miller can become the first Ohio State quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, but Penn State is trying to win just their second home game in five tries against the Buckeyes.
Prediction: Bowl berth or Big-10 on the line or not, these two teams have a rich history and should put on one of the best games of the day. Assuming Miller isn’t too shaken up after last week, he should set the school record for rushing yards by a quarterback and Ohio State will win another close game in consecutive weeks.
Betting Odds: Ohio State is favored by 1.5 points
Over/Under: 50 points
Predicted Score: Ohio State 28, Penn State 24
