After Dr. Mehmet Cengiz Oz proclaimed on his television program “The Dr. Oz Show” Thursday that a dietary supplement, raspberry ketone, is essentially a “miracle” weight-loss pill, it might be nearly impossible to find.
Raspberry-ketone extract might be a "miracle" natural weight-loss substance.
Examiner.com reported that raspberry ketone has gone viral and is selling out at different stores all over the U.S.
Raspberry ketone is a compound found within red raspberries that help give the succulent fruit its characteristic aroma, Oz explained.
But what most dieters care about most is the fact that this compound can help melt away the pounds.
People who have taken raspberry-ketone supplements can experience weight loss in as few as five days, according to Lisa Lynn, a weight-loss expert and personal trainer who has worked with celebrities such as Martha Stewart.
Lynn said the compound is “very healthy” and has “no side effects” and that it helps the body “burn fat easier.”
The compound helps stimulate a protein in the body called adiponectin. It is found in the fatty tissue and improves the body’s ability to metabolize fat so it melts away.
The reason why taking the raspberry-ketone extract is important -- as opposed to just eating raspberries -- is that one would have to eat nearly 90 pounds of raspberries to get the same effects as taking 100 to 200 milligrams of the supplement, Oz said.
He added that a user of the natural dietary supplement should take 100 mg at breakfast and 100 to 200 mg at lunch.
During "The Dr. Oz Show," Lynn explained that even though raspberry ketone will help the body lose weight, one must continue to use the extract for the weight to stay off.
But Oz said if people eat healthy and exercise regularly, their weights should remain constant.
