Yahoo (Nasdaq: YHOO), the No. 3 search engine, may unveil an updated homepage soon as part of new CEO Marissa Mayer’s turnaround strategy, a report said.
The Sunnyvale, Calif., company didn’t comment on a report carried by Business Insider that cited “multiple sources.”
Mayer, now about 100 days in her tenure at Yahoo, said Monday the company was involved in many projects to attract more users, generate visits and stimulate search and advertising with mobile applications.
While she wasn’t asked by analysts about a homepage revision, Mayer said the company “hasn’t been completely consistent…in terms of our overall site design.”
The revision would be a major move for Yahoo, which attracts about 170 million daily visits, as estimated by comScore Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOR).
A screenshot of the suggested new homepage suggests a cleaner, more simplified appearance, with two main stories and photos in the center, only about a dozen left-column links to popular sites headed by Yahoo Mail, Yahoo News and Yahoo Finance.
On the right side are prominent displays for local weather and other options such as astrology.
Yahoo shares rose 4 cents to $16.59 in late Thursday trading. They’ve gained 7 percent since Mayer joined the company.
