President Barack Obama still maintains a wide lead over Republican Party presidential nominee Mitt Romney among likely Latino voters, 70 to 25 percent, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows.

Despite repeated attempts by Romney to reduce Obama’s Hispanic advantage, the President’s lead is no surprise. Among registered voters Obama leads 69 to 23 percent.

Immigration has been one of the key issues of the 2012 debate. After calling for “self-deportation” while on the campaign trail, in last week’s debate Romney said he was in favor of a reform that would make it easy for qualified foreign workers to get visas.

“I also think we should give visas to people, green cards rather, to people who graduate with skills that we need,” Romney told the crowd at a Hofstra University in New York. “People around the world with accredited degrees in science and math, get a green card stapled to their diploma.”

While Obama has not fulfilled his promised immigration reform, he has announced a reprieve for illegal aliens under 30 who were brought to America as a child. This of course is dependent on several criteria, one of which is that these aliens must not have committed a serious crime.
