New York Knicks power forward Amare Stoudemire will miss the start of the regular season with a knee injury revealed Sunday.
An MRI showed a ruptured benign cyst in Stoudemire’s left knee and he is expected to miss the next two to three weeks of action.

New York has played four preseason games thus far, and Stoudemire missed the first two with a bruised left knee, but played in the Knicks’ 107-88 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Oct. 19. The 29-year-old tallied 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting with five rebounds and a block in 27 minutes.
Knicks fans are aware of Stoudemire’s previous knee injuries. Originally signed from the Phoenix Suns in 2010, Stoudemire’s contract was deemed uninsurable because of the injuries and subsequent surgeries to both of his knees.
He missed 15 games last season with a dislocated disc in his back, and notched his lowest scoring average since his rookie year, with 17.5 points per game.
New York, which has the oldest roster in the NBA this season, signed veterans Kurt Thomas and Rasheed Wallace this year for more size to the frontline. However neither was expected to player starters' minutes like Stoudemire. The Knicks may turn to leading-scorer Carmelo Anthony who played power forward when Stoudemire missed time last season.
The Knicks begin their season on Nov. 1 first against their new cross-town rival, the Brooklyn Nets.
