Spice Group announced on Thursday its strategic tie up with the Chinese handset maker Huawei to sell Huawei Android smartphones in India under the brand 'S Huawei'.
The S Ascend Y100 is the first device to launch in the country through the partnership. The smartphone comes with a 2.3 or 2.8 inch capacitive touch display and runs on Android 2.3 Ginger Bread Operating System. It packs a camera of 3.2-megapixel and has 512 MB ROM. It also has connectivity features like 3G, WIFI, Bluetooth and micro USB.
The handset packs a 1050mAh battery and offers features like Huawei Android Platform (HAP) lite, smart music gear with rich apps on Google play & stereo loud speaker. The phone is priced at ₹5,990.
The company aims to launch around ten devices under the newly established brand in the next few months. Mobile phone seller Spice Group expects sales of 10 million handsets in the current fiscal year which includes the sales of its own brand as well as the co-branded phones.
"We are launching S Ascend Y100 now and in the next two months, we will launch three more devices. We are already selling 7.5 million feature phones (globally) and by December 2013, we should be selling another 2.5 million Android phones under Spice, S Nexian and S Huawei brands," added Modi.
The company had earlier established partnerships for three months with the telecom service providers like Aircel, Airtel and Docomo to offer 3G subscription to its customers.
