Authorities are investigating a death at the Bumble Bee Foods seafood plant in California after an employee, Jose Malena, was cooked to death in an industrial oven.

According to NBC News, the accident occurred on Thursday morning at the Bumble Bee Foods factory in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. when a call from 911 prompted authorities to respond. KTLA-TV reported emergency services found 62-year-old Malena dead inside of a cooking device called a “steamer machine.”

California Division of Occupational Safety and Health spokeswoman Erika Monterroza told the Whittier Daily News that initial findings in the investigation say that Malena “was fatally injured when he was cooked in an oven.”

California OSHA are investigating the incident and trying to determine whether or not any workplace safety regulations were violated when Malena entered the oven.

Jose Malena was an employee at the seafood plant headquartered in San Diego for six years.

"The entire Bumble Bee Foods family is saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Malena family," Bumble Bee Foods spokesman Pat Menke said in a statement to KTLA.
