The Detroit Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 series lead on the Yankees in the American League Championship series following a 3-0 victory at Yankee Stadium on Sunday.

Yankee starter Hiroki Kuroda didn't get any run support, as he was outdueled by the Tigers' Anibal Sanchez and former Yankee reliever Phil Coke, who combined to throw a four-hit shutout.

"He was terrific," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said of Sanchez. "This is a tough place to pitch with a tough lineup and a short porch. And a whole bunch of left-handed hitters, it is not easy. That was quite a feat."

Quintin Berry got the scoring started in the seventh inning when he led off the inning with a ground-rule double. The Tigers would post two more runs in the eight, as Kuroda conceded two singles and relievers Boone Logan and Joba Chamberlain gave up hits to score the runners.

The runs were aided by a questionable call at second base in the eight inning that resulted in Yankee manager Joe Girardi being ejected for arguing.

The ALCS shifts to Detroit on Tuesday. Tigers ace Justin Verlander takes the mound against Phil Hughes.
