The HTC Sensation XL is a larger version of the HTC Sensation XE, which by itself is an upgrade to the original HTC Sensation. HTC Sensation XL is branded as one of the costliest Android smartphones in the world. On the other hand, the LG Optimus EX is one of the powerful devices from LG which packs a dual core processor in it as well.
In terms of internal hardware, the LG Optimus EX is noted by tech experts as having a good internal hardware on it, while the HTC Sensation XL is liked by many users for its audio system Beats, by Dr. Dre.
Hereunder is a detailed comparison of the specs of both smartphones in different categories.
The HTC Sensation XL is 132.5 x 70.7 x 9.9mm and weighs 162.5g, while the LG Optimus EX is 118 x 63.4 x 9.7mm and weighs 127g, much lighter than HTC Sensation XL.
The standard four Android buttons could be found on the HTC Sensation XL which comes with a solid build quality tough on the exterior due to its plastic back, while LG Optimus EX features a thick black bezel and three capacitive touch buttons on the bottom, the Home, Back, and Menu/Options.
The HTC Sensation XL has an S-LCD capacitive touchscreen measuring 4.7 inches with a pixel density of 199ppi, while the LG Optimus EX has a IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen of 4 inches and has screen density of 223ppi. The Optimus EX has a 5MP camera, while the Sensation XL has an 8MP camera, which can take photos up to 2592x1944 pixels of resolution, shoots video at 1080p at full HD at 30fps.
The HTC Sensation XL has an 8MP camera, can shoot photos up to 3264x2448 pixels of resolution and captures video at 720p at HD resolution. Both units have a secondary camera at VGA resolution, normally used for camera-based apps or video calling through Skype, Google Talk, etc.
The HTC Sensation XL has a 16GB internal memory which does not support a microSD card slot, while the LG Optimus EX has an 8GB of internal memory and expandable via card slot.
Operating System and User Interface
Both phones run on Android 2.3.4 or Gingerbread OS and come with their own user interface. The LG Optimus EX comes with LG's UI which can be customized, but limited to the homescreen and menu layout, while the HTC Sensation XL has its own HTC Sense UI, known for its excellent gesture support and is a user- friendly UI throughout the OS.

The HTC Sensation XL and Optimus EX both come with powerful processors. The Sensation XL has the 1.5GHz Scorpion Single core processor powered by the Adreno 205 GPU and Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset, while the LG Optimus EX has a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor powered by a ULP GeForce GPU and Nvidia Tegra 2 AP20H chipset.

The HTC Sensation Xl comes with audio from Beats by Dr. Dre, one of the most premium companies in the world specialising in audio technology. The HTC Sensation XL comes with Beats Audio inbox with custom-made Beats headsets.
Both have great overall specs, features, and design. HTC Sensation XL has great multimedia experience with Beats Audio and larger screen, while the LG Optimus EX has a powerful processor making its performance more powerful than the HTC Sensation XL.
