The Dallas Cowboys had numerous chances to beat the Baltimore Ravens on the road Sunday, but head coach Jason Garrett made the most pivotal mistake in the closing seconds.
After recovering an onside kick and down 31-29, Dallas quarterback Tony Romo completed a short pass to Dez Bryant with about :20 remaining and the Cowboys let the clock wind down with no one lining up to spike the ball.

The Cowboys could’ve used the extra time to take the ball down field more and get in kicker Dan Bailey’s range. Until Dallas’ final play the second-year kicker out of Oklahoma State had never attempted a kick further than 39 yards in his career.
Dallas finally took a timeout with :04 remaining and set up for a 51-yard attempt, and Bailey made the distance but it sailed just right, clinching Baltimore’s victory.
Earlier this week Garrett spoke about his players “getting it done” and preached about accountability.
“We’re constantly evaluating it, and if guys aren’t getting it done,” Garrett said to ESPN, “we’re going to look for the next best alternative. We’ve always tried to do that.”
The now 2-3 Cowboys and Garrett may face more questions about accountability throughout the week leading up to Dallas’ Week 7 game at the Carolina Panthers.
