On Monday, The Kellogg Company issued a voluntary recall on its Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats cereal after metal fragments were found inside.

The products recalled include some of Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size Original and Mini-Wheats Unfrosted Bite Size cereal products “due to the possible presence of fragments of flexible metal mesh from a faulty manufacturing part,” according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"We understand and apologize for your concern," Kellogg’s said. "According to Dr. David Acheson, an internal medicine physician and former Chief Medical Officer at the FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) with whom we consulted, the likelihood of these fragments making their way into the food is low; furthermore, the chances that any affected food will cause injury is low."

The Wall Street Journal reported the recall will cost the company between $20 million and $30 million from third quarter earnings.

According to the recall, the cereals with the letters KB, AP or FK before or after the Best If Used Before dates between April 1 and September 21 are included. A full list of the products affected are listed below, courtesy of the FDA.

The recall was first issued on Monday with the FDA but according to CBS News, many customers are upset they are just hearing word of the recall on Thursday. CBS pointed to one YouTube user, mdillard13, who filmed a video of himself using a magnet on a plate of the recalled cereal.

Another commenter on the Kellogg’s website wrote, “Your site and is very confusing and it really pisses me off it is not user friendly at all when you are trying to get a hold of your company. I have three boxes of mini wheats, it has KBB yes two B’s after the expiry date of 2013 aug 14 so I would assume they are okay am I right.”

Kellogg’s said anyone with concerns should “call 800-962-1413 from 8 am to 6 pm Eastern Time, Monday – Friday.”
