After a slow start Sridevi's comeback family drama "English Vinglish" is doing exceptionally well at both domestic as well as overseas box office in the first week, giving tough competition to satirical-comedy film "OMG Oh My God".

On its opening day, "English Vinglish" failed to attract audiences despite rave reviews from critics, but the movie picked up rapidly during the weekend particularly in the overseas market.
The Gauri Shinde-directed movie is getting better a response than "OMG Oh My God."
"English Vinglish" witnessed superb business in UK, USA, UAE and Australia, making first weekend collection almost equal to ten days collection of "OMG Oh My God!"
According to trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh, "OMG Oh My God!" raked in approximately ₹7.70 crore at the overseas BO in ten days, while "English Vinglish" collected around ₹7.67 crore in its opening weekend.
In the US, "English Vinglish" raked in $745,414 [₹3.92 crore] in the first weekend and "OMG Oh My God" collected $682,889 [₹3.60 crores] in the second weekend.
The Paresh Rawal starrer did not have release in UAE but it did quite well in Australia and New Zealand, collecting AUD $186,721 [₹98.37 lakh] and NZ $136,354 [₹57.83 lakh] respectively in the second weekend.
"English Vinglish" did excellent business in UAE collecting $375,000 [₹1.97 crore], but it failed to attract audiences in Australia and New Zealand and collected just AUD $61,973 [₹32.65 lakh] and NZ $14,193 [₹ 6.06 lakh] respectively.
Sridevi's comeback film is also doing good business in the domestic BO. The movie has scored quite well in circuits like Mumbai, Gurgaon and Mysore, but failed to attract movie buffs in non-urban mass belts like the UP area, according to koimoi.com.
