Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly are about to face off in what could be one of the most interesting political events of the year. The two will star in a debate called “The Rumble,” accessible to viewers via a paid online live stream.

The debate’s full title is “O'Reilly Vs. Stewart 2012: The Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium,” but we’ll just go with “The Rumble” to save space.
“The Rumble” will be held at George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium. It will feature Stewart and O’Reilly facing off on current political issues “in an attempt to find the best direction for America.”
The debate goes live Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT, but it will be available only to viewers who purchase access to the show. The price is $4.95, so it shouldn’t be too much of a burden for fans of either pundit to shell out. Anyone so inclined can purchase access to “The Rumble” here.
The purchase price grants access to the show’s live stream and later on-demand viewings, as well as to high-quality audio and video files of the debate, “which will be available at a later date,” according to the event’s website. Viewers can live-stream “The Rumble” on their personal computers, Android smartphones and tablets, iOS devices, and Roku boxes.
The event's format and price are reminiscent of comedian Louis C.K.’s online special, “Live at the Beacon Theater.” C.K. recorded the special himself and released it online last year for only $5 as opposed to distributing it as either a cable-television special or a DVD. C.K. earned more than $1 million from the Emmy Award-winning special, and he credits its cheap $5 price point for much of its success.
In the wake of Louis C.K.’s success, other comedians such as Aziz Ansari and Jim Gaffigan have also come out with independently released online-only specials. “The Rumble” appears to be continuing this new trend of online distribution.
