After suffering a foot injury Sunday in the New York Jets 34-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, New York may take another injury blow with receiver Santonio Holmes reportedly done for the rest of the season.
Holmes underwent an MRI Monday morning on his foot and while the Jets have not made an official announcement, according to New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta the fear is Holmes will miss the rest of the 2012 season. There is no word on what kind of injury Holmes sustained against San Francisco either.
This is the second major injury for the 2-2 Jets this season after learning last week that superstar cornerback Darrelle Revis suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
The 23rd ranked Jets’ offense has been anemic most of the season, and losing Holmes could make things worse. New York will rely on rookie receiver Stephen Hill, and upstart Jeremy Kerely if Holmes is gone.
Should New York peruse the free agent market, many of the top wide receivers leave something to be desired. Veterans Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens, and Plaxico Burress are available, but each would bring their own set of baggage to a Jets team in need of less drama on and off the field.
