India have bounced back, from the humiliating defeat to Australia, to post a comprehensive victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in their second Super Eights game. M S Dhoni's side have their tournament fate in their own hands and will be confident of their chances in the subcontinent against the Proteas.
South Africa, on the other hand, lost to both Pakistan and Australia in the Super Eights and now face the tough task of regrouping, as they attempt to shake off the "chokers" tag that has followed them in major tournaments for decades.
If Australia beat Pakistan in the other fixture, India can reach the semis with a win over South Africa. Meanwhile, a victory for the Proteas - in the same situation - will bring the net run-rate between India, Pakistan and South Africa into play.
On the other hand, if Pakistan beat Australia, South Africa will crash out of the tournament, even before their match starts. Then India will have to beat the Proteas by a margin good enough to overtake either Pakistan or Australia on net run-rate, depending on who is second on the table after their game.
India: Dhoni will have faith in the line-up that posted an easy win over Pakistan. But the Proteas always had problems while facing spin. Part-timer Yuvraj Singh has been doing well with the ball of late but India might opt for an additional specialist, to support Ravichandran Ashwin. Therefore, Harbhajan Singh or Piyush Cawla could come into the side at the expense of one the quick bowlers, possibly Lakshmipathy Balaji.
South Africa: Faf du Plessis is expected to be in the XI, in place of misfiring opener Richard Levi, while all-rounder Albie Morkel could also return to the line-up, to replace pacer Wayne Parnell.
