A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit southwestern Colombia on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake was centered 28 miles south of Popayan, Colombia, close to the Ecuador border. The magnitude was initially reported to be 7.4.
"The USGS has received lots of reports that the quake was felt, but no reports of damage or injuries," USGS geophysicist Paul Caruso told NBC News.
The quake struck at 11:31 a.m. local time. It was centered at a depth of 94 miles, the USGS said.
