Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted that his affair with Mildred Baena, which last year broke up his marriage with Maria Shriver, was “the stupidest thing” he did to his estranged wife.

In a CBS “60 Minutes” interview airing Sunday, the former California governor talks about his affair with Baena, his housekeeper with whom he fathered a child, Joseph. You can view an excerpt of the interview below.

When asked by Lesley Stahl of “60 Minutes” if his affair with Baena was “the most unbelievable act of betrayal to Maria,” Schwarzenegger replied: "I think it was the stupidest thing I've done in the whole relationship. It was terrible. I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids."

“60 Minutes” interviewed Schwarzenegger in part because the former champion bodybuilder and action star wrote an autobiography, “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story.”

Schwarzenegger told “60 Minutes” that Shriver has not read the book, which details his affair with Baena.

"She knows that it's about my whole life and that I would not write a book and kind of leave out that part and make people feel like, 'Well, wait a minute. Are we just getting a book about his success stories and not talk about his failures? ... I wanted to write a book about me,'" Schwarzenegger said.

The “60 Minutes” interview also includes Stahl and Schwarzenegger visiting his childhood home in Thal, Austria.

The interview with Schwarzenegger airs at 7 p.m. EDT.

Shriver, who "60 Minutes" sought for an interview, did not participate in the piece.
