Rapper 50 Cent is launching his own investigation into Chris Lighty’s death, at the request of Lighty’s mother, after his will raised eyebrows.
Chris Lighty was a hip-hop mogul and founder of Violator entertainment. He managed artists such as 50 Cent, Missy Elliot, Ja Rule, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey and Sean "Diddy" Combs. Lighty died last month in an apparent suicide from an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound, after an argument with his wife.
Rapper 50 Cent described Lighty as a "hip-hop hero."
"Chris Lighty has been a dear friend of mine since he was a kid. Was a brilliant partner in business, and I was so proud of all that he had accomplished," the rapper said.
Fox News reports that Lighty’s will, which he created in 2007, leaves everything to his wife, aside from a $1. 6 million trust fund for his children -- and Lighty’s family is questioning why he would leave everything to his wife.
“If I am survived by my wife, I give my entire residuary estate, real and personal, to her.”
A New York City examiner did an autopsy and ruled the case a suicide, but the family since hired Dr. Michael Baden, a former New York City chief medical examiner, to provide a second autopsy. He told Fox News that the tests are still pending to determine if the gunshot was self-inflicted or not.
After hearing about Lighty passing, many celebrities mourned his loss via Twitter.
Rihanna wrote, "Rest peacefully Chris Lighty, my prayers go out to family and loved ones. Dear God please have mercy."
Rapper and actor Ice-T said, "If you are REALLY in Hip Hop you know Chris ... If you're no ... You have NO idea how important and what a great person he was ... I can't hold back the tears ... Man!! No matter how big Chris got ... He always treated me like the young kid I met, hustlin hard at the 'New Music Seminar.' Awwwwww man ... Chris was my dude. I can't believe this. We go back ..."
Singer Mary J. Blige tweeted, "R.I.P. Chris Lighty. Gone way too soon. This is unbelievable. My prayers go out to the Lighty Family."
