“Mad Men” is predicted to make Emmy history after being nominated for 17 awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, NESN reported. The show has won best drama for the last four years — with the only other series to match that being “Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law” and “The West Wing.”

Claire Danes is a favorite to win Outstanding Lead Actress in Drama for her role on “Homeland” as CIA operative Carrie Mathison. “Homeland” has received more nominations than any other show at the 2012 Emmys.

Kathy Bates is another contender for the same award for her role on “Harry’s Law.” The actress recently announced that she underwent a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s not Bates’ first time dealing with cancer; she is also in remission from ovarian cancer.

Damian Lewis from “Homeland” and Jon Hamm from “Mad Men” are the top contenders to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama.

ABC’s “Modern Family” is expected to win Outstanding Comedy Series for the third time, but no Emmy records will be broken there. “Fraiser” has won the most times with five awards.
