A four-year-old boy has been sexually assaulted in broad daylight at an Asda branch in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire.

The attack took place in the toilets of the Asda store on Britannia Way, just before 2pm on 18 September.

The boy was attacked after being allowed to go to the toilet unaccompanied by his mother. When he returned, he relayed details of the attack to his mum.

Officers are now scrutinising CCTV footage taken in Asda around the time of the incident, and extra police personnel are patrolling local streets in a bid to prevent another attack.

Chief Inspector Gail McClymont called on residents who saw anything suspicious to come forward.

She said: "We have a number of officers dedicated to the inquiry and to reassure the public, have put additional officers on patrol in and around that area.

"I would urge anyone who may have been in the supermarket at that time or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the store or surrounding area to make contact with Dumbarton Police Office."
