While “The Office” is approaching its last season, there are still plenty of surprises in store for the staff of Dunder Mifflin. For one, “Colbert Report” host Stephen Colbert will be making a guest appearance on the show’s ninth season, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Colbert will portray the oft-alluded-to Broccoli Rob, a former member of Andy Bernard’s old a cappella group at Cornell.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “In the Halloween-themed episode, Andy (Ed Helms) discovers that the smarmy, competitive Broccoli Rob is singing a different tune about the history of the group and stirring up drama, which only intensifies the rivalry between these two frenemies.”
Stephen Colbert will be the third “Daily Show” alumnus to make an appearance on “The Office.” Former star Steve Carell formerly hosted a segment on “The Daily Show” with Colbert titled “Even Stevphen” where the two would debate. Ed Helms, the show’s current star, also worked on “The Daily Show” for several years.
“The Office” has an illustrious history of guest stars in its eight-year run. In the series’ seventh season, Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey, Rickey Gervais, Ray Romano and Warren Buffett all turned up.
Ferrell’s character, Deangelo Vickers, even briefly replaced Steve Carell’s ironically inept boss Michael Scott in a multi-episode arc. Ultimately, the manager title was passed on to series regular Ed Helms as James Spader took on yet another guest role for the eighth season.
The final season of “The Office” airs its first episode on NBC at 9 p.m. EDT Thursday night.
