Arrested NFL Players
Michael Turner is the latest in a string of NFL players to be arrested.
The running back was arrested on a DUI charges, just a few hours after his Falcons beat the Broncos on "Monday Night Football." The contest ended after midnight, and Turner was taken into custody around 2 a.m. ET, according to Gwinnett County Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
The Atlanta rusher was pulled over for driving 97 mph in a 65 mph speed zone. A news release said "the (arresting) officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and proceeded to conduct a DUI investigation."
The Falcons released a statement on the incident.
"We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time."
Several players have been arrested in 2012, many for driving while intoxicated. Here are five other NFL stars that went to jail this year:
In July, the Dallas Cowboys star was taken into police custody after allegedly attacking his mother. He was arrested on a class A misdemeanor. In her 911 phone call, Angela Bryant said her son “tried to kill her.” Charges were ultimately not pressed.
The Broncos defensive end was arrested in the offseason, accused of aggravated assault with a firearm. No criminal charges were ever filed against Dumervil, who will now sue the Miami police department for false arrest and defamation.
The Vikings running back was taken into custody for resisting arrest in Houston. He was released on $1,000 bond after spending the night in jail. Peterson allegedly hit a police officer in the shoulder when he was told to leave a nightclub.
The running back has a history of legal problems, and was arrested for a DUI on July 15. In 2008, the Seahawks star was investigated for being involved with a hit and run. He was also arrested in 2006, and received three years’ probation for a misdemeanor gun charge.
