Preview: Everton will be looking to regain their early season momentum as Newcastle visit Goodison Park on Monday. David Moyes' side made an uncharacteristically strong start to the campaign with victories against Manchester United and Aston Villa, but suffered a setback last time out with defeat at West Brom.

In Newcastle they face another side who will feel they have an outside chance of challenging for the Champions League places. The two clubs met on the final day of last season with Magpies boss Alan Pardew memorably claiming that they were "operating in a different league" to Everton.

The comments are sure to ensure him a hostile reception on Monday, but Moyes was trying to be diplomatic when addressing Pardew's claim before the match.

"People can say what they like in terms of where Everton are compared to Newcastle," Moyes said, according to BBC Sport.

"Alan and Newcastle did a really good job and deservedly have found themselves in Europe this year.

"You are only as good as your last one and in the last one they did better than us," he added. "Over the years we've done pretty well with the resources we have available to us."

Newcastle's form has been indifferent so far this season as they followed up a victory over Tottenham with a listless defeat at Chelsea and uninspiring home draw with Aston Villa.

Pardew travels to Merseyside with a squad depleted by injury. Much of the spine of the side could be absent with goalkeeper Tim Krul and key midfielder Cheick Tiote certain to be out, while captain and central defender Fabricio Coloccini is also struggling with a hamstring injury . Full-backs Danny Simpson and Ryan Taylor are also out.

Everton's problems are less dramatic with Darron Gibson missing after being ruled out for up to five weeks with a thigh strain. New signing Bryan Oviedo is still unavailable having just received his work visa, however Steven Pienaar is set to be fit.

Prediction: Back at home, Everton will be intent on putting the disappointment of their defeat to West Brom behind them. Newcastle have yet to show the impetus from last season, particularly with Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse just registering one goal between them so far this campaign. With Newcastle's list of injuries, Everton--boosted by a likely full Premier League debut for Kevin Mirallas--should have enough to get the victory.
