Prince William and Kate Middleton made themselves very much at home in the Solomon Islands in the Pacific, as the royal couple donned traditional dresses for their first day in the capital of Honiara.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended an island feast, traditionally held outdoors, dressed in traditional batik printed outfits. Kate wore a vibrant pink and orange combination strapless dress while the Duke wore a blue and white printed shirt. The Duchess wore a pair of brown wedge sandals and looked as stunning as usual in her effortless blow-dry hairdo.
The dinner was hosted by the Governor-General of Solomon Islands, Sir Frank Kabui, at his official residence. William, who is on his third stop of a nine-day tour of Southeast Asia and the South Pacific along with Catherine, to represent the Queen on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee, passed on Her Majesty’s wishes for the islanders in a speech at the dinner.
William and Kate arrived in Honiara on 16 September, when they received a traditional and colourful Solomon Island welcome. The royal couple was greeted with garlands of flowers as they made their way in an open-topped vehicle to the Church of Melanesia cathedral. William and Kate attended a thanksgiving service held in honour of the Queen.
William and Kate have already visited Singapore and Malaysia on behalf of the Queen. Unfortunately, their last two days in Malaysia received something of a blow - the controversy involving the publication of topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge by French magazine Closer. The royal couple has since hit back and they have filed a law suit against the magazine. They have also been praised for continuing their tour gracefully amidst such chaos.
A visit to Tuvalu on 18 and 19 September will mark the end of William and Kate’s Asia tour. The last Royal visit to Tuvalu took place in 1982, when The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh travelled on Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia to visit this “most striking” and remote of nations, according to the official Web site of the Prince of Wales.
