Two quarters of corporate earnings are behind us this year, and third-quarter earnings reports are beginning to trickle in.

This year's second-quarter revenue growth was only 0.8 percent higher year over year, and revenue growth has been steadily shrinking since hitting its peak in the second quarter of last year, according to Greg Harrison at Thomson Reuters Proprietary Research.

Analysts believe there are more disappointments in store. They expect companies in the S&P 500 index to post a negative revenue growth rate -- a 0.1 percent decline -- in the third quarter. Meanwhile, profits are expected to decline by 2 percent for the period.

The FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), operator of the world's largest cargo airline, shocked Wall Street last Tuesday when it warned quarterly earnings will fall short of its forecast after a weak global economy damped revenue from express shipments.

Memphis, Tenn.-based FedEx said profit for the quarter that ended Aug. 31 will range from $1.37 to $1.43 a share. That was less than the June 19 projection of $1.45 to $1.60 a share.

We ran a screen and produced a list of 10 notable companies set to report their earnings between Sept. 18 and Sept. 20.
