After months of tabloid speculation Zachary Quinto confirmed that he was dating Jonathan Groff during a recent interview with Out Magazine. The October cover story has the actor gushing over his new boyfriend.
"I'm incredibly happy, I'm incredibly lucky," Quinto said to Out. "I found myself in a pattern of being attracted to people who were somehow unavailable, and what I realized was that I was protecting myself because I equated the idea of connection and love with trauma and death. I had to do a lot of work on the couch to really get to a place where I was able to show up to a relationship with someone who was actually capable of being in one -- and that took a lot of trial and error."
PerezHilton.com published photos of the two actors earlier this summer walking together in New York City's West Village en route to a Shakespeare production in Central Park. The site also reported that the two actors had their arms around each other. Just Jared also posted a picture of Groff wearing Quinto's shirt in June.
Quinto, who is best known for roles in the movie "Margin Call," "American Horror Story" on FX and as Spock in the rebooted "Star Trek" franchise, did not delve too deeply into his personal life but did comment on his decision to come out of the closet in October, according to Access Hollywood.
Quinto said the death of Jamey Rodemeyer inspired him to make the announcement public. Rodemeyer was a 14-year-old gay boy living outside Buffalo, N.Y., who committed suicide after relentless bullying.
"One of the most defining conversations that I had with myself was that absolutely no good can come from me staying quiet about [my sexuality]," Quinto said to Out. "Literally no good can come of it. But if I take the step to make the acknowledgement and be honest, so much good could potentially come of it."
Jonathan Groff rose to fame for the Broadway musical "Spring Awakening" and his portrayal of Jesse St. James on the hit TV series "Glee." Groff also has appeared on "One Life To Live," in "Taking Woodstock" and "The Conspirator." Along with acting, Groff is also a singer-songwriter.
