Jael Strauss and her family have reached out to Dr. Phil for help with the former "America's Next Top Model" contestant's addiction to methamphetamine. Dr. Phil's interview with Strauss and her family will air on Thursday, but another "America's Next Top Model" contestant said Tyra Banks, the show's host, won't be there to help Strauss.
Based on the preview released of Thursday's show, Strauss doesn't seem too keen on an intervention. She's shown running out of the studio until Dr. Phil follows her out into the parking lot -- cameras in tow -- to discuss recovery.
When Jael was 22 she was a finalist on "America's Next Top Model," a place most models would certainly envy. During filming for the show Strauss's friend died of a drug overdose, which wasn't enough to make her consider leaving the show, but it has shaken her life to the point where now, at 28, her family is afraid she's slowly killing herself with meth, according to the Huffington Post.
The Daily Mail reported that Strauss explained her decision to stay on the show by dedicating it to her friend.
"There was never, never a question in my mind to leave the competition," Strauss said, according to the Daily Mail. "My friend is gone and I am still here living life to the fullest."
When Gawker ran a story about Strauss' slide into meth addiction, fellow aspiring "America's Next Top Model" Cari Dee English took to the comment section to detail what it was like working so closely with Strauss and "Model" host Tyra Banks.
"Tyra won't do anything," English wrote before discussing Strauss. "Poor girl. Having problems and then getting a hint of fame only makes an addiction rise. They should have evaluated her a lot more before letting her on the show."
"All they saw was a personality good for television," English continued. "Well, this hopefully will save at least her life and someone watching. Everything happens for a reason."
