Jerry "The King" Lawler suffered a heart attack this past Monday on WWE's flagship weekly broadcast, "Monday Night Raw." The wrestler-turned-announcer engaged in a match featuring some of WWE's highest-profile talent, but was also taken to a Montreal hospital later that night after suffering a cardiac infarction. WWE announcer Michael Cole took to Fox News to talk about the situation, according to Wrestle Zone.
Jerry “The King” Lawler collapsed when he suffered a heart attack this past Monday on WWE’s flagship weekly broadcast, “Monday Night Raw.”
Appearing on "Fox and Friends," Cole discussed Lawler's situation openly, ignoring his "heel" character that he portrays for the WWE. Overall, Cole discusses Lawler as a friend and colleague. The segment also illustrates exactly what occurred during the broadcast, where "The King" was taken out of the arena to a nearby hospital.
CNN had an interview with "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, where he answered questions regarding the WWE allowing a 62-year old man in the ring, according to PWTorch. "Nobody made Jerry get in the ring. He got in the ring because he's a great pro," the legendary Flair stated. "The Nature Boy" also defended Lawler, saying that he feels "The King" is more qualified than any other wrestler to be in the ring, even at the age of 62.
Bleacher Report has a list of potential candidates who could easily fill the shoes for Lawler as he recovers. That list includes former grapplers William Regal and John Bradshaw Layfield, along with color commentator Josh Mathews. While Lawler is certainly a mainstay with the WWE, it'll be difficult finding a replacement.
Michael Cole stated "Out of respect for Jerry, we weren't going to do commentary," for the end of the match, instead opting to inform viewers of the situation once the match was completed. Check out the full interview below:
