Paralympic GB were celebrating last night as they smashed their target of 103 medals, bettering their Beijing record as Hannah Cockroft won gold in the T34 200m race.
Cockroft joined a host of medal winners throughout the day, with Jonnie Peacock breaking the T44 100m record to take out Gold, along with Sarah Storey's win in the cycling road race, Josef Craig in the S7 400m freestyle, David Weir in the T54 800m and Hannah Lucas in the 2.4mR class.
Heather Frederikson equalled the tally of Beijing's 103 medals when she won silver in the S8 100m freestyle, missing out on Gold to American swimming rival Jessica Long.
Peacock captured the excitement of the British team and fans over the day when he told reporters after his race: "That was absolutely mad. I knew Dave Weir would win before I went out and that the crowd would be on such a high but I didn't expect it would be as mad as it was. They were cheering so loud.
"I went out there and thought 'I'm not going to block out the crowd, it's impossible'. Also, at the end of the day, I wanted to enjoy it. I'm so proud to be British and I do think the crowd has made these Paralympics. It will stay with me forever."
The achievement of 104 medals, which makes this the sixth most successful Paralympics since Rome in 1960, is an achievement every athlete should be proud of, chief executive of UK Sport Liz Nicholl said.
"To win at least 103 medals is a fantastic achievement particularly when you consider Paralympic sport is becoming hugely competitive with more nations investing significant resources in success," she explained.
ParalympicsGB chef de mission Craig Hunter added: "It is testament to the talent, dedication and skill of the athletes who make up the team as well as to their support staff and to the funding we receive from the National Lottery and commercial partners.
"The final target remains to finish second overall in the medal table. We know that this will be a close-run thing with three more days to go."
