Tom Cruise’s Lawyer Denies Rumored Scientology Wife Auditions [PHOTOS]
A lawyer for Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise has dismissed the rumors on a magazine claiming that the Church of Scientology had auditioned candidates to become the girlfriend and eventually the wife of actor Tom Cruise.
Sources revealed to Vanity Fair magazine that the controversial church, where Tom Cruise is the most high-profile member, tested several actresses as potential brides after his 2001 divorce from Australian actress Nicole Kidman.
"Vanity Fair's story is essentially a rehash of tired old lies previously run in the supermarket tabloids, quoting the same bogus sources," lawyer Bert Fields said as he dismissed the allegations. "It's long, boring and false," Fields added.
The Vanity Fair story reports that the Church embarked on a top-secret project in finding a perfect girlfriend for Tom Cruise and it was headed by Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology Chief David Miscavige. It is claimed that actresses who were already Scientologists were called in and told that they were auditioning for a training film. Then, they were asked with a series of questions which includes "What do you think of Tom Cruise?"
As a result of the rumored process, an Iranian-born London-raised actress named Nazanin Boniadi was chosen to date the "Mission Impossible" star in November 2004 after an intensive daily audition. However, the report also included details of the failed match between Boniadi and Cruise where the Iranian-born actress was allegedly dismissed after failing to give enough public display of affection for Tom Cruise.
"I get more love from an extra than I get from you," Cruise allegedly told Boniadi at one point. Their relationship ended in January 2005.
Meanwhile, Tom Cruise married "Dawson's Creek" actress Katie Holmes in November 2006 after their whirlwind romance plus the proposal beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Five years later, Katie Holmes filed for divorce on June 28 and a settlement has been made in just less than two weeks.
Cruise was reportedly taken completely by surprise with Holmes' actions and speculations started to swirl behind the reason why the two divorced which mainly centerd on Holmes' reported concerns about her husband's plans to draw their daughter Suri closer into the Church of Scientology.
