After nine years of marriage, comedy duo and generally awesome couple Amy Poehler and Will Arnett have announced that they are separating, according to Us Weekly. The split appears to be amicable, but has already shocked fans of the pair of comedians.
Amy Poehler and Will Arnet are separating after nine years of marriage, according to Us Weekly. The couple of comedians routinely worked together in shows such as "Parks and Recreation" and "Arrested Development."
"Amy Poehler and Will Arnett are separating after nine years of marriage, Us Weekly has learned exclusively. 'It's very amicable,' a source says. The couple's rep confirms the separation to Us.
"The couple, who wed on Aug. 29, 2003, are parents to sons Archie, 3, and Abel, 2. Saturday Night Live alum Poehler, 40, and Up All Night actor Arnett, 42, have frequently appeared onscreen together, in both TV and film."
Poehler, long known as an excellent improv and character actor through her work with the Upright Citizens Brigade, broke through to the mainstream starring in "Saturday Night Live" and "Parks and Recreation."
Arnett became well-known for his portrayal of the arrogant, dim-witted magician Gob Bluth in the cult-classic series "Arrested Development." His fame in the canceled Fox sitcom led to roles in "Hot Rod," "Up All Night," and Running Wilde."
The couple made frequent attempts to collaborate, often appearing as ill-fated love interests in their roles together. Poehler and Arnett appeared together in "Arrested Development," "Parks and Recreation," "Blades of Glory," "Horton Hears a Who!" "Spring Breakdown," "On Broadway" and "Monsters in Aliens."
The announcement sent shock throughout the Internet. Pop-culture-watching sites such as Buzzfeed and Gawker reported on the breakup in a shocked, mourning tone. "True love is dead," read the subheadline on Buzzfeed. "Go home and break up with your boyfriend because 'love' is a lie," wrote Gawker.
Numerous comments on both sites expressed disbelief and sadness at the separation.
"It feels like somebody took my heart and dropped it into a bucket of boiling tears. And at the same time, somebody else is hitting my soul in the crotch, with a frozen sledge hammer. And then a third guy walks in and starts punching me in the grief bone, and I'm crying , and nobody can hear me, because I'm terribly terribly, terribly alone," wrote one Buzzfeed commenter.
Currently, both Poehler and Arnett are in the running for Emmys. Poehler is up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series as well as Outstanding Writing for a comedy Series for her work in "Parks and Recreation." Arnett is up for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his recurring role as Devon Banks in "30 Rock."
