Rumors spread that Samsung is planning to release a mini version of the Galaxy S3 as to hinder iPhone 5 launch and to cater for other markets.
Samsung is known for catering to various target markets and offering a wide array of devices to different walks of life. With the release of new products, Samsung wants to increase its dominance and presence in the smartphone market.
However, there is no word of confirmation yet from the Korea-based tech giant if the rumors are true.
In the recent quarter, Samsung dominated the smartphone market with over 60 percent of market share. And recently, Samsung released a solid iPad competitor in the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. Moreover, and the company will unveil the much-anticipated Galaxy Note 2 at a media event in Berlin on August 29.
Below is the comparison of the two Galaxy S3 smartphones with the rumored features of its mini version.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a massive 4.8 screen display, which is perfect for watching movies and high res photos. Meanwhile, the mini version is rumored to have 4-inch screen size, which is the same size of rumored iPhone 5.
The original Galaxy S3 has quad-core processor, while its speculated miniature version will be equipped with dual-core processor.
It is expected that the mini version will also run with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with a probable update to the new Jelly Bean OS.
There will be a disparity in the camera of the two versions. The large Samsung Galaxy S3 has 8 MP camera, while the mini version will have 5 MP shooter at the back
With smaller size and lesser features, the mini version is expected to be cheaper than its larger version as well as Apple's iPhone. The kicker is the price of the device, which is expected to be a lot cheaper than the upcoming iPhone 5. If the rumors hold truth, the mini version of the Galaxy S3 will be at par with the functionality of the iPhone 4S.
Releasing a mini version of the highly popular and successful Galaxy S3 is Samsung's strategy in further extending its dominance over other markets. Some people cannot afford the original Samsung Galaxy S3 but want to experience its benefits. The mini version will directly aim to those people.
