Giovani dos Santos could be used as bait in Tottenham Hotspur's attempts to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar, according to the player's agent.

The Mexican midfielder has endured a torrid time in north London starting just 14 league games in four years at the club.

Dos Santos, who featured for Mexico in their victorious Olympic team at London 2012, has been attempting to manufacture a move away from Spurs and could now be used a makeweight in a deal to bring Cesar to the Premier League.

Dos Santos has spent four turbulent years at Spurs.

"We have several options and we need to weigh them all up," his agent Vicente Montes said.

"The truth is that Gio has always wanted to play in La Liga or Serie A so that's what we're aiming for.

"A swap deal with Julio Cesar? Often journalists talk without knowing the truth, but that is not the case here.

"Inter is one of the possibilities, I can't deny that."

With 41 year old Brad Friedel and 38 year old Carlo Cudinicini in their ranks, Tottenham are desperate to sign a goalkeeper for the long-term, and Cesar, a winner of five Serie A titles with Inter, could fulfil that role.

Having signed Samir Handanovic from Udinese, Cesar is no longer guaranteed a starting birth at the San Siro and could look to leave the club to seek regular first-team football.

Cesar could be looking to leave Inter.

Dos Santos meanwhile, is looking to do similar having been sent out on loan on three separate occasions during his four seasons at Tottenham.

Spells with Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing Santander have been littered with sporadic appearances for Spurs, with Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon having cemented their places on either wing.

With a number of first team peripherals such as Niko Kranjcar, Roman Pavyluchenko and Vedran Corluka having left the club in recent months, Dos Santos may see this summer as his opportunity to end his nightmare spell at White Hart Lane.
