Robert Pattinson helped ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange Tuesday morning with director David Cronenberg to promote their new film "Cosmopolis," proving to the world, or at least to Wall Street, that he's moved on from Kristen Stewart. It was the 26-year-old "Twilight" star's second appearance in public since tabloids broke the news that Pattinson's girlfriend, Stewart, had been having an affair with her director, Rupert Sanders.

In the blowout surrounding the Stewart-Sanders scandal, Pattinson refused to issue a public statement except to promise that he would honor all of his promotional duties for "Cosmopolis," a film adaptation of Don Delilo's 2003 novel, in which he plays a billionaire asset manager. And indeed, so far, he has.
Pattinson first appeared at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on Monday for the premiere of "Cosmopolis," wearing a sophisticated blue-grey suit by Gucci. The Italian fashion label hosted the event, in addition to helping design Pattinson's costumes for the film.
So far the film, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May, has received mixed reviews from critics. Most, however, have lauded Pattinson's performance as one of its redeeming qualities. Ryan Gilbey at the New Statesman rejected the film's "air of detachment expressed in a reliance on state-of-the-nation epigrams," but tempered his opinion, saying, "In its favor, the film has Pattinson [...] He brings hunger but also delicacy."
As for David Cronenberg, the director expressed his excitement to be celebrating the film in the city it's set in. "It's exciting to bring 'Cosmopolis' back to New York," he said. "It belongs here."
Later in the day Pattinson swung by "The Daily Show with John Stewart," where he gave his first televised interview since the scandal. Although neither explicitly mentioned the affair, or even Kristen Stewart's name, Jon Stewart took the opportunity to poke fun at the lovelorn actor, plying him with Ben & Jerry's ice cream like "just a coupla gals, talkin'."
Pattinson managed to quietly dodge the comedian's questions about his personal life, but admitted that the situation was "awkward."
"My biggest problem in my life is that I'm cheap, and I didn't hire a publicist," joked Pattinson. "I'm going to hire a publicist."
