General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) issued a voluntary recall Thursday for 1.3 million dishwashers due to a fire hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the voluntary recall includes GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile and Hotpoint dishwashers.

The dishwashers' heating elements located inside of the machines could fail, posing a fire risk. GE said there have been seven fires reported and three caused "extensive property damage." There have been no reports of bodily injuries, it said

The dishwashers were sold in the U.S. from March 2006 through August 2009 for $350 to $850. The machines are plastic tub dishwashers with front controls. They were sold in black, white, bisque, stainless steel and CleanSteel exterior colors and finishes.

The Fairfield, Conn., company said in a statement that consumers can submit their model and serial number in its search engine or call the GE Hotline to determine if their dishwasher was recalled.

The product safety commission's chairwoman, Inez Tenenbaum, said consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dishwashers. They should "disconnect the power supply to the unit," Tenenbaum said in a speech Thursday at the National Press Club.

To find out if your dishwasher is on the list, either search for the model prefix number in the graphic below or go to GE's  search engine, where consumers can input the model and serial numbers to determine if their dishwasher was recalled.

GE said it will repair the recalled dishwashers for free repair. Customers also have the option of using a $75 GE rebate to purchase a new GE front-control plastic tub dishwasher or using a $100 rebate for a new GE front-control stainless tub dishwasher or GE Profile top control dishwasher.
