While Chelsea's Champions League success remains fresh in the memory, the start of the new season is fast approaching with the Blues taking part in the English football season's traditional curtain-raiser, the Community Shield, against Manchester City on Sunday.
Currently involved in the Olympics with Brazil, Hulk could still very much be a target for Chelsea this summer.
Since that glorious night in Munich, Chelsea have already spent in excess of £60 million reinventing their squad with the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Marko Marin arriving. But the club is still eager for further reinforcements ahead of the clash with City at Villa Park.
Wigan's Victor Moses currently looks the most likely arrival. Chelsea have been negotiating with Wigan for much of the summer, but have been left frustrated by the Latics' £10 million asking price. Despite the forward having just a year remaining on his contract, the two clubs could be set to reach an agreement for £8 million, according to the Guardian.
The Guardian also reports that Chelsea still have an interest in Porto forward Hulk and Borussia Dortmund's Andre Schurrle.
The Blues' long pursuit of Hulk is well known, but the club have so far been left frustrated by their inability to complete a deal for the Brazil international. According to the Guardian, it is the money that would be due to Hulk's third-party owner that has thus far held up a deal.
The People has gone big on Chelsea's move for Schurrle. The Blues have had at least one bid rejected for the Germany international, but are thought to be set to renew their interest. According to the People, Chelsea will test Leverkusen's strong resolve to retain the forward with a £25 million bid.
The report claims that Schurrle will be a replacement for Didier Drogba, though that seems an unlikely prospect. Although the 21-year-old has appeared in a central striking role, he has predominantly been deployed on the left, where he featured for Germany in Euro 2012.
While Chelsea seem intent on building an intimidating front line, boss Roberto Di Matteo is also eager to strengthen his defense ahead of the new season.
The position long considered in need of reinforcing as right back. Though a deal for Inter star Maicon fell through earlier in the summer, Chelsea now appear to have fixed their sights on Marseille's Cesar Azpilicueta.
French publication L'Equipe reports that Chelsea have pursued the Spanish 22-year-old for several weeks, with Marseille president Vincent Labrune claiming that they have received a "serious approach" from the European champions.
Azpilicueta, who was a part of Spain's disappointing Olympic team this summer, is said to be valued at €9 million (£7.2m).
