Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is hoping to further strengthen his defence this summer after the club were linked with new offers for FC Twente's Douglas Texeira and Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy.
The Sun has reported that Newcastle have made an offer of £4million for Douglas who will earn wages in the region of £40,000-a-week should he be allowed to make the move to the Premier League side.
Newcastle have been tracking the central-defender for some time and will be hoping that FC Twente manager Steve McClaren is willing to do business after earlier missing out on striker Luuk de Jong who left the Dutch club for Borussia Monchengladbach.
Douglas has just one year left on his contract with FC Twente and could make the decision to run out his deal and then leave on a free at the end of next season, while the club may feel it is the last chance to cash-in on the Brazilian-born defender.
The north east club have already strengthen their defence when they announced yesterday that they had completed a deal to sign Australian youngster Curtis Good.
Another defender who Newcastle are increasingly confident they will be able to land is France international Debuchy who has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks.
Newcastle have yet to match the valuation that the Ligue 1 side have placed on the defender but his international colleague, and Toon midfielder, Yohan Cabaye has admitted that Debuchy wants to make the move to the Sports Direct Arena.
"Mathieu has made a very difficult to decision to leave Lille, but he has made the decision. Now I hope Newcastle push for Mathieu and I want them to do the deal," Cabaye told The Journal, as reported in the Daily Mirror.
"I spoke with him two days ago and he told me he wants to come. I hope Derek (Llambias) and [owner] Mike Ashley will do the business now. He wants to play for Newcastle and I hope that he comes to Newcastle because, of course, he is my friend, but also a very good player for Newcastle."
