Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay has stated the Blues' summer spending is not yet over.
The European champions have already shelled out over £65m in transfer fees this summer, to land Brazil midfielder Oscar, Belgium forward Eden Hazard and Germany winger Marko Marin. However, there are still positions the club is looking to strengthen.
Chelsea have been linked to Marseille's Cesar Azpilicueta
"While we ended with a very strong season, it was clear that there were some areas where we did have to strengthen, so we knew we were always going to have to do that. If the right players become available at the right time we will sign them. We've done that and we are still continuing to look at one or two positions and we will see how that develops over the next couple of weeks," ESPN quoted Gourlay as saying.
Porto forward Hulk, Wigan Athletic winger Victor Moses and Marseille right back Cesar Azpilicueta are understood to be among the players interesting the Blues.
Meanwhile, midfielder Michael Essien believes he has still much to give Chelsea. The Ghanaian international has had an injury-plagued last few seasons and the man who was once an absolute fixture in the side when Jose Mourinho was manager made only 10 league starts last season. However, Essien has stated he feels he is returning to his best form and intends to stay and fight for a place in the team.
"My intention is to stay and I'm looking forward to a new season, I still have two more years here. I'm still here, I'm still around. I feel now that I am coming back to what I used to be. It's been a long road but I am almost there," Goal.com quoted the former Lyon star as saying.
The midfielder ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments last summer - a similar injury to the one he suffered three years earlier.
"It's always frustrating when you are injured and not playing but you have to work and stay positive. I'm the sort of person who is very calm, I'm a very positive person. I've not set myself any targets. I just pray to be injury-free, I'm very calm. I don't talk much but put me on the pitch and I will do my best," the midfielder added.
