Christian Bale and the rest of the cast behind "The Dark Knight Rises" extended their sympathies towards families grieving because of the horrific shooting incident in Aurora, Colorado.
Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Joseph Gordon-Levitt boarded a private plane yesterday on the wake of the Colorado shooting incident. The cast were en route to Los Angeles after "The Dark Knight Rises" premier in Paris was cancelled.
Speaking for the first time, Christian Bale released a statement regarding the Aurora cinema massacre which killed 12 people and injured 58 others at the midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" last Thursday.
"Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them," Bale said on the statement.
Aside from the Paris premier, Warner Bros. also cancelled premier in Mexico and Japan. The director of the movie, Christopher Nolan, also broke his silence about the tragic incident.
He described the incident as "senseless tragedy" and the gunman as "unbearably savage." Referring to movie theaters as his "home," the 41-year-old director said he was devastated that someone would "violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way."
24-year-old James Holmes, opened fire at the Aurora cinema in Colorado during the midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" and killed 12 people. He reportedly referred to himself as "The Joker" when questioned by the police.
James was a student at the University of Colorado before he dropped out in June. A law enforcement officer also said that Holmes' apartment was decorated with "Batman" paraphernalia.
Christopher Nolan released a statement in behalf of the cast and crew of "The Dark Knight Rises." He said:
"Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families."
