'50 Shades of Grey' Casting Rumors: The Dream Cast [SLIDESHOW]

E.L. James recently stated in a tweet that casting for the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie is still far off, but that has done nothing to quiet ferverish speculation from fans.

Since the author was inspired to write her best-selling series after reading and rereading the "Twilight" series by Stephenie Meyer, some have hoped that "Twilight's" breakout stars, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, will also play the lead roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the on-screen adaptation.

Other popular actors have emerged as favorites for the erotic flick. Channing Tatum, now playing a stripper in "Magic Mike," definitely has the body and charm to woo audiences as Grey seduces Ana, but he allegedly told reporters that his wife would not allow him to take the role of Christian Grey unless she would be playing Ana.

Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer are the two actors most favored to play the role of twitchy-palmed Christian Grey. Ian Somerhalder is best known as a sultry vampire on "The Vampire Diaries." He and "White Collar's" Matt Bomer easily fit all of the criteria that E.L James specified for the role of Grey: an intoxicatingly handsome young man with light eyes and dark hair -- but they may be pushing the age spectrum. Grey is probably in his mid-20s while Somerhand and Bomer are in their earlier 30s. Since Ana is 21, it might come off as kind of creepy instead of erotic and romantic.

Though Ryan Gosling doesn't fit the Christian Grey qualifications precisely, he oozes confidence -- not to mention he's one of Hollywood's best actors and looks gorgeous in a suit. Dye his hair dark, he could definitely pull of the role like the rest of the contenders.

Speculation over who will play Anastasia Steele is not as fanatical, but just as important: Christian Grey's submissive needs to be accurate, after all, in order for the movie to have the right tone.

Alexis Bledel is best known as Rory Gilmore of "Gilmore Girls," but her role as Becky, the sweet and innocent-seeming prostitute in 2005's "Sin City," might be her ticket to win the role as Anastasia Steele, virgin turned sex goddess.

Amanda Seyfried's green doe eyes, emitting innocence and sensuality, may make her the perfect fit as Anastasia Steele.

Best known as Buffy's little sister and "Harriet the Spy," Michelle Trachtenberg has the right range of acting ability to pull off the lead role.

Emily Browning might be the least known of the actresses, but in her role in "Suckerpunch" she uses her seductive dances to swoon workers at a mental facility, she would definitely be believable as the angelic Anastasia that entices Christian Grey.

Who do you think would best play the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele?
