No one can tell the birthplace of any celebrity just by merely basing it on their native looks or accent. Besides, the best ones in the industry can shift from one accent to another quite perfectly. Take Meryl Streep as the best example.
But for the trivia lover types, it will be interesting to know that some of the Hollywood A-listers are born in places you never even imagined they would be from.
The 'Black Swan' actress Natalie Portman was born in Jerusalem, Israel. Her real name is Natalie Hershlag but she used the maiden name of her granny for her stage name. Her father is the Israeli and her mum, an American. It was when she was three years old that they moved to Washington, D.C. and in other parts of the US.
Mel Gibson is someone everyone knows to be Australia but the truth of the matter is that he was born in Peekskill, New York. He stayed in NY for 12 years before he moved on to Sydney along with his parents and 10 siblings. Apart from his on and off Australian accent, he was first recognized to be a Down Under actor since he gained global popularity for his starring in the Mad Max series which were done in Australia.
Nicole Kidman is another celebrity who everyone thought is Australian, but was actually born in Hawaii way back in 1967. Her parents, though both Aussies, lived in Honolulu since her dad had an assignment with the National Institute of Mental Health in Hawaii. It was when she was four that they went back to Sydney.
Charlize Theron spent the first 16 years of her life within Johannesburg, South Africa .The very first language she learned was Afrikaans. When she turned 16, Theron flew to Italy to become a model and lived eventually in New York. The 'Snow White & The Huntsman' actress currently lives in LA and is now enjoying the status of an Oscar award-winning actress.
Mila Kunis, the popular Jackie Burkhart in 'That 70s Show,' was born in Ukraine. According to other trivia, Kunis only learned the English language by watching too much American game shows with 'The Price is Right' as one of her favourites.
