The Facebook App Center is now officially released in Australia, a month after the Facebook App Center was launched in the U.S.
The Facebook App Center is now officially available in other countries aside from Australia including Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK. Facebook also announced that the Facebook App Center for Brazil, France, Germany, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey will be available in the "coming weeks".
Facebook introduced the App Center in the US a month before. Facebook users can access the App Center through the menu link located at the left-hand side of the Facebook page or through the navigational bookmarks in Facebook mobile apps. Through this app center, Facebook users could search and use app that integrates with Facebook. Drew Hoskins, an engineer for Facebook, described the App center in his blog post stating "The App Center lists high-quality apps based on user feedback and orders them based on what a person is most likely to enjoy and the popularity in their country."
Facebook also launched a "localization tool" which would allow developers to translate the name and description of their apps in different languages. Developers who are interested in submitting their apps should do so before the deadline which is on July 13, 2012. The integration of the "localization tool" was done in order to reach more Facebook users outside the US. Facebook pointed out that there are at least 900 million monthly active users that are located outside U.S. and Canada. The social networking giant also pointed out that some of their most popular apps like Spotify and North America came from developers that are not based in North America.
Developers would be able to gain a lot from this tool as it would mean more exposure through millions of Facebook users. The Facebook App Center would also offer app suggestions based on both user feedback and the popularity of the said app in the local country. Facebook clarified that they do not host apps. Instead, they direct users to the appropriate app store for their device.
