Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology chairman David Miscavige (pictured), has been missing since 2007.
The wedding was everything the couple could have wanted, with Shelly playing cupid, and Cruise's best friend David Miscavige standing beside him as his best man. But a year later everything changed when Shelly Miscavige disappeared without a trace.
Tom Cruise didn't exactly turn to Shelly to help him find a new wife. The New York Post reports that Cruise actually turned to Shelly's husband, David.
"After the [Penelope] Cruz breakup, the lovelorn actor turned to his best friend, Scientology leader [David] Miscavige, for help in finding a new wife," a New York Post article reports. "The diminutive church boss, who has a notoriously volcanic temper, became irritated with constant calls from Tom. As the head of a multibillion-dollar operation, he felt it was below him to be seeking out women for the Hollywood star. He deputized his wife, Shelly, to take over the task."

What happened after the ill-fated wedding to make Shelly Miscavige disappear? Take a look at three theories on her disappearance below:
"The Hole" - Business Insider reports that Shelly may be in "The Hole," a mysterious group of buildings that are rumored to be where misbehaving Scientologists are held captive. While the church denies the existence of "The Hole," Shelly reportedly "misbehaved" just before her disappearance. It was reported that she filled job vacancies without the permission of her husband.
It has been reported that anywhere between 80 and 100 people reside in "The Hole." Those who have fallen out of the organization's good graces reportedly are "required to do group confessions all day and all night." Would this lead her to be locked up in "The Hole?"
David Miscavige's 'violent tendencies' - It has been reported by some Scientologist church members that their leader, David Miscavige, had some "violent tendencies." Many admitted that they had witnessed, or had been beaten themselves at the hands of David. Is it possible that Shelly Miscavige suffered a horrible fate at the hands of her husband?
Claims - The Daily Mail reports that many believe that Shelly "went into hiding after becoming disillusioned with the religion." Another theory circulating on her disappearance is that she died after a battle with cancer.
