A new massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Blade & Soul pushes Diablo 3 off the top spot in PC game.
NCsoft's new video game made its debut in beta test last Thursday and overtakes Diablo 3in terms of popularity. According to game research firm Gametrics, as of Sunday morning, Blade & Soul held 17.38 percent for Internet cafe user time, only just behind Diablo 3's 18.42 percent.
On the opening day of the beta test, Blade & Soul held 17.93 to be in second place in the domestic arena. The number rose to 18.04 percent as of Saturday morning. Diablo 3, which has held the top spot for five consecutive weeks since its launch on May 15 drastically lost to the new game.
Korean-made game Blade & Soul is a martial-arts-themed fantasy game where characters fight each other and in-game monsters. The game has four playable races and six classes.
According to company CEO Kim Taek-jin, Blade & Soul has "Korean characteristic" compared to other Western culture-themed role-playing games currently out there. The firm plans to open servers overseas as well, starting with China in August.
Diablo 3 eventually lost its popularity, especially in Korea, when players encountered errors in the game. Although Blizzard already fixed the issues in Diablo 3, especially the Error 37 that did not allow gamers to enter hell; South Korean government ordered that Blizzard should give refund to users affected by the errors.
Refunds from Blizzard do not only apply to South Korea. According to Wall Street Journal, if you are below level 40 then the refund applies from June 25th to July 3rd. If you are below level 20, then you can get a refund, but only if it's within two weeks of being purchased from today.
This decision is not influenced by Korea's consumer protection law. This is Blizzard's own decision to give consumers their money back for any reason a consumer feels they have any issue with a product and it is found and proven that it is Blizzard's fault.
