Ian Somerhalder Seeks Funds For Foundation and Other Celebrity Charity Supporters [PHOTOS]
'The Vampire Diaries' star, Ian Somerhalder, aims to put up a centre through his very own foundation, the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. He needs to put up a fund that would amount to a total of $5 million. He will use this money to come up with a sanctuary where troubled kids can learn how to deal with peers by learning how to care and love animals.
Somerhalder has called on to his fans for support and even posted a special message on his official website which reads:
"We believe in the understanding that all living creatures deserve dignity, love, compassion and the right to life...
Please help us create the funds necessary to establish this haven. We plan to responsibly raise five million dollars towards this goal - we promise to keep you informed on the amount we raise."
The Generous Heart of Ian Somerhalder
When the 'Vampire Diaries' cast attended the EyeCon last March 25, Somerhalder did not take his fee and instead requested that all the ticket sales from his signed autographs and pictures be donated instead to his foundation. A total of around $32,360 were raised in his fan items alone and all of it, according to the generous celebrity, will proceed for funding research and other projects of his foundation.
The Ian Somerhalder Foundation is committed to giving inspiration to people all around the globe in a collaborative spirit. He aims to educate and empower everyone, most especially the younger generations towards acting responsible in taking care of the environment, the animals and one another.
A lot of his fans during the EyeCon also helped in raising funds for his foundation through their own charitable project ideas. There was one called Vampire Support which was founded by a 17-year-old student, Chloe Dawn, and was able to raise about $4,000. A percentage of that amount went to Somerhalder's foundation too.
Ian Somerhalder is not the only one who is committed to working on their own foundations or helping the charities they like to support.
Check out the slideshow to know more of the other generous celebrities who like helping charities and have put up their own foundations.

Ellen DeGeneres
Whitney Elementary has been profiled on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” all season long. And the donations keep rolling in. In February, DeGeneres announced that through Facebook and the game, WeTopia, kinds at Whitney will receive funds for a food bank program.
DeGeneres -- perhaps one of the most selfless celebrities these days -- is also involved with more than 30 charities and foundations, including Make It Right, which is aiming to build 150 homes (all environmentally friendly) in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward.
Leonardo Dicaprio
Leonardo Dicaprio seems to be doing everything in his power to lose the heartthrob image that plagued him during his “Romeo + Juliet” and “Titanic” days. Don’t worry, Leo, you’ve lost it. We all know you’re a “tough guy” and a "serious" actor now, so loosen up and show us those pearly whites!
