John Peterson, a 23-year-old playing in his first U.S. Open golf tournament, accomplished a feat that few others ever have, a hole in one.

In the third round on Saturday, Peterson aced the 180-yard, par-3, 13th hole at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, landing his shot just before the green and running it up to the cup. The shot helped to turn around a rough round for Peterson. He was (+4) on the day and (+5) for the tournament when he holed out. Using the momentum from the shot, he was able to hang on and shoot even par over the final five holes. He now finds himself in the top 10 at (+3) going into the final day of a major tournament.
